Quite surprised this morning to discover chicklings in with the broody hen. We didn't take note exactly when she started sitting and thought it hadn't been quite a month yet so were still expecting them to be another week or so. Turns out the incubation period is actually 21 days so nature was right on time!
We've had 4 baby chicks hatch out of the 12 eggs I put under her, thats not a brilliant success rate (33%) compared to the last lot where she hatched 12 of 14 (86%). I think they will grow big and quick though as they don't have much sibling rivalry.
