This poor old tree hadn't had any attention for years, it was far too tall and overgrown with ivy which was causing it to twist and split. We cut it back quite harshly last year and lots of new shoots have grown straight upwards. To give the tree a better structure and and keep it all a bit lower we have removed all but the best shoots, and tied those out to hopefully form some nice horizontal scaffhold branches.
