New Location and Better Setup

By James on

Since the pump has been stalling I thought I would move it a bit lower down the land and add a stand pipe too.

Supply pressure here is about 9psi which is quite a lot more than the previous location.

The stand pipe (32mm) is slightly larger than the drive pipe (25mm) and has multiple functions.  First it will allow the shock wave to escape to the atmosphere without travelling all the way back up to the bore hole, this will allow the next pump cycle to start much quicker. Also it will allow any air the gets trapped in the system to find its way out. It will also act as a reservoir allowing a more constant flow from the borehole while the ram pump cycles.

Things look much better here, the working pressure is a bit higher at about 32psi but that's due to the pump being lower down the land, it has higher to pump the water. The cycle rate is much quicker here and pressure builds up quicker too.  I can easilly get it up to 50+psi before I chicken out and release the pressure! Delivery flow has increased too getting about 1.2 litre/min now which is much better!
